There’s definite soul in the performances, and if you listen closely, remarkable layers of sprung polyrhythms that build to create a thick fabric under the voices. It’s an excellent piece of work.

Sola has always felt that the album ‘Routes to Roots’ was a vehicle which enabled him to explore his cultural history, through music. The endless question of identity, in a restless and changing world, has been a constant drive and inspiration. Growing up in London has meant that his influences, culturally, have been wide and varied. The thrill and challenge of trying to express these multiple influences within a musical frame work trigger a creative energy and excitement that feels inexhaustible.
Routes to Roots is his interpretative space to grapple with a musical perspective that has multiple modes of expression. There is a funkiness in the language and the drumming as well as a deep sense of melody in the poetry, that goes back centuries. An infinite source of creativity.

As technology evolves, the world is drawn closer together and injustices in the world are brought into collective consciousness with more intensity - especially in the hearts and minds of the youth.
